ABOUT THE SUN RA ARKESTRA
“Despite the intergalactic research that motivates them, the Sun Ra Arkestra have been a local institution since 1968 when Le Sony’r Ra traveled the spaceways and his Afro-Futurist ensemble landed on Philadelphia soil. By combining Sun Ra’s cosmic philosophy, modern electronic instruments, and the traditional jazz idiom, the Arkestra created a singular approach to music that remains light years ahead of their contemporaries. Currently under the direction of Maestro Marshall Allen, the Arkestra continues to practice the teachings of their founder and create unrivaled sonic experiences.” -Philadelphia Weekly

ABOUT SCORCH (fire and movement arts)
Fire dancing is a beautiful art form using tools with skill and precision similar to martial art weaponry. Some acts include poi, staff, hoops, fans, rope dart, eating and breathing with new forms and techniques in constant evolution. Philadelphia Fire Arts is a diverse community of individuals with a common respect and love of the flame. They incorporate fire into various styles of dance, martial arts, gymnastics and yoga and have extensive knowledge of the craft and safety practices. They perform with and without fire, and include stilt-walking, LED glow hooping, and other exciting acts in our shows. Scorch Fire Show is the latest group performance, which will be premiering at this year’s PEX Summer Festival and will also be participating in the Philly Fringe Fest.
