Michael Bierylo (guitar/laptop), Ken Field (sax/flute/percussion), Erik Lindgren (piano), and Rick Scott (synthesizer) have been recognized both individually and collectively as significant contributors to the world of modern creative music. Blue Crunk is a Philadelphia-based Instrumental jazz / funk ensemble featuring members of up-and-coming hip hop band Abstract verses and jazz-fusion group Touch. Blue Crunk's 4 infuse guitarist / composer Craig Kahle's compositions with an improvisatory fury that transforms their mixture of jazz and funk into a signature sound.
DIE (Drexel Improv Ensemble) Having sprung from an improvisation workshop led by composer / violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain, The Philadelphia-based DIE has since expanded well beyond its parent university and original membership. Their style lies somewhere in the realm of improvised chamber music, but has hands in minimalism, free jazz, jazz, rock, and experimental music of various types. For this performance the Improv Ensemble will feature its 7 veteran members (saxophonists Steve Davit & Kyle Press, trombonists Connor Przybyszewski & Tyler Mack, guitarists Eric Sanderson & Jake Hager, and keyboardist Erica Corbo), and collaborate with members of Birdsongs of the Mesozoic during their set.
