MAGGOT TANGO (1995, directed by Andrew Repasky McElhinney, 33 minutes,
U.S.)
KIDS (1995, directed by Larry Clark, 100 minutes, U.S.)
hosted by
Andrew Repasky McElhinney (director of CHRONICLE OF CORPSES, CHRISTMAS
DREAMS)The Underground legend surfaces for one night only! The
25th anniversary 4K digital restoration of director Andrew Repasky
McElhinney's third movie, A Maggot Tango.  Filmed when he was sixteen
years old in the woods and old public buildings around Chestnut Hill,
Philadelphia, A Maggot Tango is now in the permanent collection of The
Museum of Modern Art, New York.Shot as a silent on B&W Ilford
16MM negative film, and matched in post-production to an electric
playlist on the soundtrack, A Maggot Tango follows the descent of a
young woman named "A" (18-year-old Erica Downie, in a committed and
fearless performance) who runs away from home, and perhaps kills
herself, only to become trapped in an increasingly surreal nightmare
filled with her disturbed parents, an angel, a dead little boy, a car
crash, two random polysexual hook-ups, drugs, cannibals, and the specter
of Death herself as well as several tango dance sequences.Operatic,
strange, grotesque, violently comic. Inspired by silent movies, the
avant-garde cinema of the 20s, 30s, 40 & 50s, the underground films
of the 1960s, and the cult movies of the 1970s. Part lyrical art film,
part seedy sexploitation picture. Come celebrate A Maggot Tango, a
pivotal early work from Andrew Repasky McElhinney, one of our
great contemporary film directors.Director, cast and crew in attendance.Second feature:KIDS (1995 / 100 minutes)"That
summer we made A Maggot Tango, we would film during the day, and go to
clubs, or house parties, or diners, or go see Kids at night. Kids was
18+ so we had to get around that but we must-of seen the picture five or
six times. If those kids weren't us, they were certainly kids we knew,
and it was so thrilling, empowering, and sad, to see a version of our
maladjusted world, up there on screen, as we were living it."—Andrew
Repasky McElhinney Photographer turned director Larry Clark and
screenwriter Harmony Korine's very-90s classic is a prurient,
reactionary scare film rubbing your face in the way it is. However,
reactionary melodrama is transformed by breathtaking cinematography
(Eric Edwards), editing (Christopher Tellefsen) and raw and fearless
performances from the cast (including the big screen debuts of future
stars Rosario Dawson and Chloë Sevigny).IN TAKING STEPS TO SLOW THE SPREAD OF COVID-19, THE ROTUNDA HAS BEEN ORDERED TO SHUT DOWN. CURRENTLY, WE ARE CLOSED UNTIL MAY 31, 2020. HOWEVER, THIS CLOSURE COULD BE EXTENDED DEPENDING ON THE PROGRESS OF THE VIRUS, SO PLEASE STAY TUNED!

 A French/ Middle-Eastern hippie punk singer-songwriter and guitarist
formerly based in Brooklyn, NY and freshly relocated to West Philly.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Paris, in a Muslim immigrant family
from Syria and Palestine, Line traveled across Europe and lived in
England, Italy, Scotland and Hungary where she found many human and
artistic inspirations before moving to the US in 2014. With a soft voice
that can turn into a storm of rage and strumming strings, Line tackles
the topic of depression caused by the consumption society. She composes
Post-punk and Antifolk sometimes psychedelic songs with simple and
quirky lyrics full of irony. “Music is a tool that helps me tame my
anger and achieve self and deathacceptance.”Debora Dias:
A Portuguese born, Philadelphia based artist, whose body of work
focuses on the portrayal of figures, with themes and symbolism that
speak directly to the phenomena of expressing the divine feminine on a
nurturing and sensual level. Furthermore, her colorful and detailed
abstract paintings tend create an impact on the viewer’s sense of
liberation, and elicit an emotional response.Paulette Branson and Mixed People:
A funky, soul fusion band with hints of rock and world music...or as we
like to call it - new age funk. Versatile musicianship, raw lyrics, and
full vocal harmonies create a genuine, mixed musical experience. The
name Mixed People derived from colors that bloomed out the whole funk
and nothing but the funk. It embraces the love of self and others
regardless of our differences and celebrates the beauty in us all. Mixed
People is a Philadelphia-based band, founded by guitarist, Paulette
Branson, in 2012. The music is progressive, and the energy and emotion
behind this band will get you dancing on your feet and singing along. The Goddess Crew:
A drumming troupe sprung out of parades and performances at a variety
of burn events, including PEX and Firebird. Having realized their own
prowess and excitement for rhythm, these talented ladies invited Styx
Latté to lead rhythms and bring structure to the music. Largely
improvisational and free form, the momentum will sweep you up on your
feet and shake your soul! You'll never notice the telepathic timecode
keeping it together... but if there's rhythm in you, The Goddess Crew
will coax it out. Come JOIN US! BYOD.Plum Dragoness:
