  • 7:00 PMwords: the art of symbols and syntax
  • 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: BRITTANY SCHRUM, Coordinator 717.495.7211, blschrum@gmail.com words: the art of symbols and syntax an independent collaboration between artists and writers July 8, 2011 - August 8, 2011 Opening Reception with light refreshments and gallery talk July 8 at 7pm Contributing Artists: Kathryn Gronsbell Sean Favre Laura Finestone Chris Stach Bailey Chick Sara Hudak Contributing Writers: Melissa Carl Katie Haegele Emma Wenzel Coordinated by Brittany Schrum Philadelphia, PA - Philadelphia area writers and artists have teamed up to create a visual interpretation of complex philosophical ideas/theory concerning word and image association through an independent art show. This show  will newly interpret earlier artists’ and spiritual theologians  philosophical implications of how (the collective) “we” perceive the  world through word and image. The collaboration aims to break boundaries in thought by taking the intangible and interpreting it visually and through literature. Questions such as: What is the relationship between word and image? How are people influenced by images? How do “we” use our words to paint vivid pictures, and why does that relationship exist? may come into play as this a philosophical discussion exercised through artistic outlets. This collaboration is unique in style. Not only are artists be contributing work, but writers are contributing a literary perspective that may be  read, watched, or listened during opening reception. This collaboration has been developed, funded, and curated independently by contributing artists and coordinator. The young artists involved include newer artists including Kathryn Gronsbell, Sean Favre, Laura Finestone, Chris Stach, Bailey Chick and Sara Hudak. Guest poet Melissa Carl, zine writer Katie Haegele and up-and-coming writer Emma Wenzel are also contributing. Coordinating this exhibition is Brittany Schrum, who frequently works with new artists on independent projects in the city. words will be showing for one month at The Rotunda, from July 8th until August 8th. Opening reception and  gallery talk will be on July 8th from 7-10pm.
