    The Re-AWAKENING 2026 (Philadelphia's HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS)

JOIN US for The Re-AWAKENING a ALL AGE Community Event Featuring: Guests Speakers, EDUTAINMENT, Film Screening, Conscious Music, & More!

The Re-AWAKENING 2026 event features a vibrant blend of conscious music, spoken word, guest speakers, film screening, connecting with organizations, strategic planning, cultural vendors and support for local Black-owned businesses.

Curator: Bigga Dre( Amun Sen Hotep Re)

Programming Focus: Community empowerment, Black culture, resilience, edutainment, & social upliftment. The overarching theme of the Reawakening event centers on cultural renewal, spiritual resurrection, and community self-reliance within the African diaspora. Rather than just a concert or a festival, the event is designed as a form of "edutainment"—using arts and history to educate, heal, and politically mobilize the neighborhood. Core Pillars of the Event's Theme

Sankofa Principle: Rooted in the African concept of "looking to the past to move forward," the programming connects ancient African history and civilization with modern-day struggles and achievements.

Collective Healing: The event addresses systemic struggles and intergenerational trauma by offering a safe space focused on mental, physical, and spiritual wellness.

Economic Solidarity: A central theme is the pooling of local resources, emphasizing the buying and circulating of dollars within Black-owned businesses.

The True Purpose of the Gathering

A Cultural Hub: Providing a stage for independent, conscious musical artists, poets, and visual storytellers whose work is often omitted from mainstream media.

Grassroots Education: Organizing panel discussions, workshops, and guest lectures from community leaders regarding civil rights, legal education, and community safety.More info and tickets HERE

Sebastián Silva, 109 min., Chile/Mexico)TYREL (2018, dir. Sebastián Silva 86 min. Chile/U.S.)- - - -Despite starting out in Chile, far from the center of world cinema, gay writer/director/actor Sebastián Silva has created a successful string of rich and provocative films, including two Sundance award winners, 2007's THE MAID and CRYSTAL FAIRY & THE MAGICAL CACTUS with Michael Cera and Gaby Hoffman. His latest is 2023's ROTTING IN THE SUN in which Silva and “internet influencer” Jordan Firstman plays fictionalized versions of themselves.Playing “Sebastián Silva” Silva presents himself as a frustrated, suicidal filmmaker who has relocated to Mexico City to paint. Encouraged by a friend to seek solace at a gay sex resort, he meets Jordan Firstman (as himself) a hopelessly self-obsessed social media star who seems to have no personal boundaries. Silva distances himself from the YouTube star yet the pair find themselves thrown together after producers at HBO encourage Silva to work with the impossible Firstman.ROTTING IN THE SUN takes a number of shocking turns from there, making the darkest of comedies out of the pair's situation, finding humor in this most modern of contemporary landscapes. To say more would spoil the fun.“An especially brave and original film, Full of surprises and generous entertainment.”Sergio Burstein, Los Angeles Times- - – -2018's TYREL is a devastating look at the subtle micro-aggressions bubbling beneath the surface at a typical bro-tastic weekend.A group of thirty-something old friends get together for a birthday weekend at a cabin in the Catskills. New to the group is Tyler (Jason Mitchell, Easy-E from STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON), a genial up-start restaurateur, who as the only African American in the group, finds himself slowly alienated by the high-energy competitive spirit of the partying “Bros.”Although it doesn't take any fantastical turns, TYREL drew comparisons to Jordan Peele's modern horror classic GET OUT with the story's visceral unease cutting deep, despite the rural beauty and seeming innocuousness of its setting. Michael Cera has a memorable turn as the late-arriving rich friend who turns the party up a notch and THE WIRE's Reg E. Cathey appears in his final film role“Silva makes a chamber orchestra of unconscious prejudice and passive-aggression out of this all-bro ensemble, with Mitchell's performance as the violin solo at the center of it that grows from a tentative tremolo to a lonesome wail.”Emily Yoshida, New York Magazine/Vulture- - -Follow Bright Bulb Screenings on Facebook, Instagram

FREE FIRE SHOW IN WEST PHILLY

WILL BE A CELEBRATION OF SUMMER

OUTDOORS ON THE ROTUNDA'S FRONT PLAZA!

Poet-Tree En Motion Presents its Seasonal Arts Showcase Aug. 29 with a Focus on Fire Arts, Music and Dancing

WEST PHILADELPHIA – The community is invited to a free fire arts performance at the Poet-tree En Motion multidisciplinary arts showcase. Located at The Rotunda in West Philly, the event will run from 8-10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. The seasonal showcase has usually been held on Wednesdays for the past 19 years, so please note the change in day.

Live DJ’ed beats will set the mood for thrilling fire performances by Ambra Renee and Bryce Adams of B.A.D. Blaze plus special guests Reese Crawley and Katerina Hackett. Poet-tree En Motion artistic director Gabrielle de Burke (aka Plum Dragoness) will MC the event and also fire perform. A dance party will continue to the end of the event.

For millennia, humans have celebrated the light and joy of summer with fire festivities. Poet-tree En Motion continues that tradition.

De Burke has also hosted various types of art and artists from the Philadelphia region in her arts showcase for the past 19 years. The name of the event puts a focus on poetry and spoken word, but de Burke offers a more encompassing definition of poetry and how that relates to her events.

“Poetry in motion is a lot of different things,” de Burke says. “It’s not just stuck on a page. It’s not just stuck on a stage. It’s moving in time. All of the artists are expressing poetry but just in different forms. I want the event to be an expression of the many different ways in which poetry is present in our lives whether it’s music, dance, art or visual performance.”

Poet-tree En Motion is supported by grants from the University of Pennsylvania. Donations will be collected at the door to benefit the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania to honor, support and preserve the Native Indigenous culture of the original stewards of the land we are gathering on. Tips for individual artists are welcome and encouraged.
